COMMUNAL TAPESTRY WORKSHOP, WORN WORLDS
BY ABBY MANWILLER & RENNEL LAVILLA
AUGUST 2025, MARAWI CITY, PHILIPPINES

On August 20, 2025, students and faculty of MSU Marawi participated in an embroidery workshop led by Rennel Lavilla and Abby Manwiller. They were asked to reflect on how they contribute to peace and to decorate their squares (sourced from an ukay-ukay store in the city) as representations of who they are. The squares were then sewn together, combining panubok(embroidery) and mamandiyang (beading) work and symbolizing a blending of identities and affirming that, despite our differences, we each contribute to something larger-made more beautiful through variety.
